Whether you’re using one of JBL’s wireless speakers (such as the Flip 4, Charge 3 or Clip 3), JBL’s wireless headphones (like the Reflect Mini BT), or even one of JBL’s soundbars, the Bluetooth pairing process is pretty much identical. Follow the steps below to:
1. Turn on pairing mode for your JBL device
If your speaker/headphone/soundbar hasn't been connected to Bluetooth before, it will automatically start up in pairing mode when you power on (you should notice the LED light blinking). If you have paired your device previously, you can manually put it in pairing mode by holding down the Bluetooth button for at least 3 seconds, until the LED flashes (JBL speakers typically have a dedicated Bluetooth button. For JBL headphones, the Power button usually doubles as the Bluetooth button).
2. Find your JBL device on your phone or laptop and pair them
Android. Go to Settings and turn on Bluetooth. In Bluetooth click “Pair new device”. When you see your JBL device come up in the list, tap it and it should be paired with your phone.
iPhone. Go to Settings and then Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth. Look for your JBL device under “OTHER DEVICES” and tap on it to connect.
MacOS. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. Select your JBL device from the list, then click Connect. If asked, click Accept.
Windows 10. Open “Bluetooth & other devices” in the System Settings either by clicking on your Bluetooth button in the tool bar and selecting “Show Bluetooth devices”. If the Bluetooth button is hidden, you'll find it under the upward arrow on the task bar at the bottom of your display (see below).
When the Add a device window comes up, click “Bluetooth”. Look for your JBL device in the list and tap on it to connect. Alternatively, search for “Bluetooth” in your Windows search box. When the Bluetooth & other devices window comes up, make sure Bluetooth is on then click “Add Bluetooth or other device” and select your device from the list.
3. Confirm successful pairing
When you have successfully paired your JBL speakers or headphones to your phone or laptop, the LED on your JBL device will stop blinking and you should hear an audio confirmation that your device is paired (either a tone or voice confirmation).

If you have trouble connecting speakers or headphones to your computer, try the following steps.
Connecting speakers or headphones to a 3.5 mm mini jack
On most portable speakers, the right-channel speaker is the 'main' speaker with the volume knob, and it often has two or more wires coming out of the back. One of these wires should connect to the left speaker, and another should have a 3.5 mm mini plug that connects to your computer's audio output jack. If your speakers require a power source to amplify the audio, there should also be a power cord. This cord needs to connect to a wall outlet or surge protector outlet.
In the back of the computer, connect the mini plug to the audio line-level output. This port is usually colored lime green, as in the picture at right.
How To Make Your Wired Speakers Wireless
Some motherboards may also have the following connections (not picutred) for 4, 5.1, 7.1 speaker setups.
USB speakers or headphones
To connect a set of USB speakers or headphones, insert the device's USB connector into one of your computer's open USB ports (as shown in the picture). The device should be automatically recognized by the computer. For additional information, consult the user manual for your device.
Laptop users
To connect speakers to a laptop with no sound out port, plug the mini plug into the headphones port.
Speakers with a subwoofer
If your speakers have a subwoofer, the right speaker plugs into the subwoofer. Make sure the subwoofer is also turned on if it has a power switch on the back.
Can I plug speakers into a running computer?
Yes. It is ok to plug in and disconnect speakers while the computer is on and running. Most operating systems today also show a pop-up notice when speakers are plugged into and disconnected from the computer.
Test the speakers
After the speakers are connected, adjust the volume to make sure it is not too loud or quiet by adjusting the volume knob. Open a sound or video file, put in an audio CD, or visit a site, like YouTube, to test the speakers and make sure they're working.
Do I need to install drivers for speakers? How To Connect External Speakers To Laptop
No. Speakers do not need drivers. If no speakers are working with a computer, the sound card may need to have drivers installed.
